Palm Treo 750

Released under Cingular is the Palm Treo 750. Another Windows-based smartphone, the Treo 750 sports a more compact design and the antenna was thrown away in the picture, with an integrated antenna as replacement. It also promises comfort to users with its more streamlined features and soft-touch finish. One of the most promising enhancements of the Treo 750 is the threaded chat view for text messages.

Palm Treo 750 boasts a smaller dimension as compared to other Treo models: x 2.3 x 0.8 inches. It is also lighter at 5.4 ounces. It is actually one of the most compact Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone devices but it is still categorized among the big smartphones as compared to Nokia and Samsung models.

The front side of Treo 750 boasts a 2.5 inches screen with 65,0o0 colors at a 240 x 240 pixel resolution. It bears the same complaint with the Treo 700wx because most Windows applications are made to fit bigger resolutions. Text and images weren’t sharp and bright especially in direct sunlight. Below the screen is the navigation controls composed of Talk and End buttons, a shortcut to the Start menu, an OK button, and a five-way navigation toggle.

The well-backlit QWERTY keyboard is retained, however is crowded and so close together as compared to the 700wx. A miniSD card slot is situated on the right side of the Treo 750, an improvement from the regular SD slot. The left spine is composed of the volume rocker, customizable shortcut key and an infrared port. The top of the unit is where silent ringer switch is located while the USB, universal connector and the headset ports are on the bottom. On the back of the device is the camera lens and speaker.

Features of the Palm Treo 750 are reminiscent to that of the 700wx, one of which is that both run Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition. This means that it also enjoys the same productivity tools such as the Microsoft Mobile Office Suite which enabled users to open and edit Word and Excel documents and view PowerPoint presentations. PDFs can be viewed with the Picsel PDF application. E-mail solutions include direct-push technology (e-mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks) as well as compatibility with Good Mobile Messaging and Cingular Xpress. This means that instant messaging is possible with the 750.

Connectivity options with Palm Treo 750 includes the built-in Bluetooth 1.2 compatible with A2DP profile for stereo Bluetooth headset as well as OBEX (object exchange), wireless car kits and hands-free headsets and the Cingular’s TeleNav GPS Navigator service for navigation. Dial-up networking is also possible but again, it doesn’t integrate Wi-Fi.

In terms of multimedia, nothing drastic really has changed. It still has the
1.3-megapixel camera with video-recorder and an improvement – the Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for playing a wide array of music formats. It also allows MPEG-4 video streaming.
